Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Poroy Train Station - Aguas Calientes

Your 2-day adventure begins with a pick-up from your accommodation at an agreed time for the drive to Poroy train station. The train departs at 7:25 a.m., allowing you to start your day at a comfortable pace. Your journey will take you through the breathtaking Andean and jungle landscapes en route to the town of Aguas Calientes, situated at the base of Machu Picchu Sanctuary.

This scenic train ride, often considered one of the most beautiful in the world, is an unforgettable experience in itself. With large windows for panoramic views, you’ll witness the dramatic descent to 2,040 m (6,692 ft) as you pass snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and vibrant valleys.

After a four-hour journey, you’ll arrive in Aguas Calientes, where your guide will meet you and accompany you to your hotel. With no cars in town, getting around is exclusively on foot, adding to the quaint charm of this riverside village.

Around 1:30 p.m., enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the town’s top restaurants, followed by free time in the afternoon to explore as you wish. Nestled in a lush, green valley with a river rushing through, Aguas Calientes is filled with picturesque cafes, restaurants, and scenic trails. You may also choose to relax in the local hot springs, soaking in the warm waters ahead of tomorrow’s big adventure.

In the evening, you’ll enjoy a tasty dinner with your guide, who will provide a detailed briefing on what to expect for your Machu Picchu experience. Rest well tonight, as you’ll be up before dawn for an unforgettable day at Machu Picchu.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

To make the most of your Machu Picchu experience, we start bright and early to beat the crowds. After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll leave at 5:30 a.m. and catch the bus up to the Historic Sanctuary. The 25-minute bus ride winds up a steep path, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Upon arrival, you’ll begin a guided two-hour tour led by an expert who will take you through the most important areas of Machu Picchu, including its houses, temples, and squares. Originally thought to be just a legend, Machu Picchu was rediscovered in 1911 by explorer Hiram Bingham. Today, it stands at 2,430 m (7,972 ft), nestled within a lush, tropical mountain forest on the eastern slopes of the Andes. Its setting, overlooking the upper Amazon basin, is incredibly scenic, with a rich variety of flora and fauna.

For those who have booked tickets in advance, this is the ideal time to hike either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, both of which offer breathtaking views of the entire citadel. Afterward, we’ll make our way back down to Aguas Calientes.

Back in town, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, browse the shops for souvenirs, or revisit the hot springs if you didn’t go the previous day. In the afternoon, we’ll board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, we’ll transport you directly to your accommodation, where you can relax and unwind after this incredible journey.
